The desire for mobility has transformed from a primal instinct into a technological drive — one that began with the domestication of the horse and evolves into the refinement of intelligent machines and smart vehicles. Such desire has become a dominant force shaping how we live, produce, perceive, and exploit the world, confining countless possibilities into a singular purpose. Since the moment humans first captured the image of a galloping horse — through replication and generation — the immortal shadow of life has been released from its flesh.

The first captured horse - The Horse in Motion by Eadweard Muybridge

Since the moment the horse’s image was captured, it was granted a kind of immortality.
Yet this immortality is not the continuation of breath,
but the fixation of data and symbols.
Copy, then copy again; generate, then generate again:
from one horse to a thousand,
from pasture to city,
images and information pile into a lush facade,
yet cannot fill the hollow skeleton.

These digital projections bear no weight, no breath,
only the flicker of running fragments,
an eternal yet desiccated loop.
They are no longer animals, but proliferations of symbols,
running suspended, replaced by the concept of running itself.

In this endless generation,
“the horse” becomes a metaphor for possibility:
both a shadow of life
and an accelerator of disappearance.
What we gaze upon is no longer the horse,
but how the image devours life,
and how, in emptiness, it fabricates the illusion of eternity.

From Horse to Possibility is a visual journey exploring the evolution of possibility and the limits of development. From the galloping horse to the speeding automobile, and onward to the intelligent transportation systems of the future, each leap forward symbolizes humanity’s relentless desire and determination for progress, driven by purpose. Yet now, this driving force has grown ever more powerful and uncontrollable. We find ourselves standing on the edge of rapidly shifting technologies, witnessing purpose break through its final boundaries.

The work seeks to reveal a chain of relationships: how the desire to move through space transforms from a simple motive into a technological means that mobilizes, tames, and dominates all things – from possibilities to horse, from AI to smart car – it compresses and confines countless possibilities into framework of a singular purpose. In the end, it constructs a body of steel for itself, fueled by the remnants of ancient life, roaring past as a self-aware intelligent machine.

From horse to possibility, the will to run continues like a phantom, endlessly cycling without destination. From the mists of antiquity to the restlessness of steam, this primal will races onward through the interwoven fields of time, space, and possibility. But when it finally breaks free from the web of meaning – has it truly become free?
